摘要
Intelligent decision engine is necessary to support seamless handover and multimedia services in heterogeneous wireless mobile networks. In this paper, a matched monolithic fuzzy decision engine (FDE), which is tailored to match the QoS and data rate requirements of video streaming traffic, is presented. The proposed decision engine helps to improve the overall network selection performance for a number of video streaming options (standards). The above work is further enhanced by introducing an adaptive mechanism. This is achieved by employing multiple dedicated FDEs, each matched to one of the available video streaming standards. This approach further improves the network selection performance. Limitation of the adaptive design in relation to the need for a large number of dedicated FDEs is overcome by incorporating a new process of dynamic modification of the fuzzy membership functions (FMFs). This process automatically tailors the FMFs to match the requirement of the video streaming standard selected by the mobile user. Thus, the functionality of the adaptive design is fully realized but only employing a single FDE.
