Biochemical estimation of RNA and DNA in susceptible and resistant strains of Musca domestica L. after treatment with DDT and Malathion

摘要
During present investigations the organochlorine "DDT" and organophosphate "Malathion" was used to study their effect on nucleic acids in 3 strains of adult houseflies "Musca domestica" L. (susceptible PCSIR strain, resistant Holland strain and wild Malir strain). The contents of RNA and DNA increased maximally in wild Malir strain treated, with DDT (RNA 60.0% and DNA 60.91%) which indicates higher resistance in Malir strain as compared to Holland strain. In Holland resistant strain the activation of RNA and DNA was 48.57% and 53.53%, respectively as compared to control. Similar activation was observed by the treatment with malthion but this was lesser as compared to DDT.
