In this study, I explored the relationship between preservice teachers' experiences in a university String Project and their understandings of themselves as teachers. I gathered qualitative data through interviews and observations and compiled a multiple case study record. Data analysis revealed that the participants' perceptions were influenced by factors such as previous teaching and performance experiences and family background. Through this field experience, the preservice teachers gathered direct information to use in their personalized journeys of becoming teachers. They employed this information in individual ways to guide behavior and develop awareness of themselves as teachers. The final report emphasizes the lens of the participants and supports the importance of recognizing individual differences in developing learning situations for preservice teachers.
