Levels of landscape fragility in the city of La Plata (Argentina)

The objective of the present investigation is to make a diagnosis of the Greater La Plata Region that detects critical areas in terms of levels of degradation and elaborate landscape strategies to intervene in these areas. In the first instance, an analysis of the main urban problems that integrate the data linked to population growth with the survey of the study region made by satellite images from Google Earth (2017) and then a field visit in order to corroborate the data obtained. In a second instance, the data collected in a Geographic Information System (GIS) are incorporated to later detect critical areas in terms of levels of degradation. The result of this work verifies the existence of large surfaces committed in terms of degradation corresponding to both urban and rural areas and especially located in the peri-urban areas, creating a threat to the conservation of landscape resources such as wetlands and the main water courses of the region.
