摘要：

This article is part of the master's thesis entitled "History of public higher education in the south-central region of Parana: the constitution of FAFIG/UNICENTRO in Guarapuava (1970-1990)", defended in 2016, with funding from CAPES. It aims to discuss the interiorization of public higher education in the State of Parana, examining its social and political determinants in the constitution of public higher education in the south-central region of Parana since 1970. It has as a study reference the Faculdade de Filosofia Ciencias e Letras de Guarapuava (FAFIG), currently Universidade Estadual do Centro Oeste (UNICENTRO), founded in 1990, in the context of the expansion of higher education in Parana, based on local and regional specificities. In the process of constituting Higher Education Institutions diverse interests intertwined, from the political-electoral aspects, through the social and economic demands and the struggle of education as a right.
