Marxist medievalist: A tradition

The following is a slightly edited version of a keynote address given at the Schlauch Symposium in Poznan, Poland, in May 2002. The conference was organized by Sheila Delany and Dr. Jacek Fisiak of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, who was Margaret Schlauch's graduate student and colleague. The conference brought together a small, compatible group of medievalists from Canada, the United Slates, Germany, Australia and Poland working in literary-cultural history and in linguistics, the areas of Margaret Schlauch's specialization. A number of the contributions have been published in Studia Anglica Posnaniensa, 38 (2002).
