Effect of green rotational fallow on weed infestation and yield of sugar beet

Different cover crops on rotational fallow as affecting weed infestation and yield of succeeding sugar beet were tested at Bernburg site over four years. Generally, from the view of weed control in beet it is not necessary to change herbicide strategy after green fallow as preceeding crop. Under normal conditions the weed situation is only marginally influenced. Higher weed infestation due to self greening fallow has been sufficiently controlled by postemergence herbicide application. Yield and quality of the beet, however, have been strong affected by different cover crops. Fallow before sugar beet should be greened by sowing a crops in spring.
