摘要
A new process, reactive infiltration, was investigated to synthesize TiC/aluminum composites, in which a combustion reaction and an infiltration of molten metal were combined. Addition of an aluminum powder in the (Ti+C) powder blend can lower the processing temperature to around melting point of aluminum. The optimum aluminum addition ratio in the powder blend was in between 0.8 and 1.2 (Al/Ti molar ratio) to synthesize successfully TiC by the combustion reaction. The in situ synthesized TiC reinforcement was very fine spherical particles with a diameter of 2-5mum. The compressive fracture strength of the composite was about 600MPa at room temperature, and it was not remarkably decreased even at 423K and 573K.
