Plasmonic Refractive Index Sensor Based on Ring-Type Pentagonal Resonator with High Sensitivity

摘要
A highly sensitive refractive index sensor with metal insulator metal configuration has been proposed and numerically investigated the performance parameters. The sensor composed of a straight waveguide coupled with a ring-type regular pentagonal resonator. The maximum sensitivity observed is as high as 2325 nm/RIU with a figure of merit of 46. The sensor has been analyzed for the dielectrics whose refractive indices are between 1 to 1.02 and 1.34 to 1.40 and achieved a sensing resolution of 4.30x10(-6) RIU. High sensitivity and FOM of the sensor with close-packed configuration make it suitable candidate for lab-on-chip sensing applications, biosensors, and optical applications.
