New forms of tourist accommodation in mountain areas linked to the snow tourism. The case of the tourist rental housing in the Catalan Western Pyrenees

This contribution examines the development of housing for tourist use in the Catalan Western Pyrenees linked to the ski sector. The case study shows that the problems associated with the proliferation of this type of tourist accommodation exceed the scope of cities and coastal holiday destinations, infiltrating very vulnerable territorial areas, such as rural mountain areas. The development and growth of these new forms of tourist accommodation - as a maximum exponent of the hybrid models of the so- called collaborative tourism- have reinforced and aggravated the negative effects associated with the naturbanization processes initiated in the past.
