Simulation of AUV motion in shallow water

摘要
Simulation of nonlinear wave motion due to forced oscillation of an underwater vehicle near the free surface of a viscous fluid is presented. Two-dimensional solutions, which represent the flow along the centerline plane of a submerged body, are obtained using a curvilinear-coordinates based finite-difference method. Gertler #4154 body profile, upon which the Ocean EXplorer (OEX) class of AUVs are based, is used in the simulation. Results of hydrodynamic forces and flow fields corresponding to heave and surge modes of vehicle oscillation are presented. Ongoing works include the decomposition of the forces in terms of hydrodynamic coefficients and the simulation of the open-loop response of the vehicle subject to wave exciting forces.
