Shifting and conflicting identities - Iranian women political activists in exile

The article is about the ways in which Iranian women political activists in exile deal with their different identities. As refugees from the Iranian Revolution of 1979, they were confronted with conflicting political, gender and religious identities. Their escape to a new country has added a new form of conflict, namely their position as 'the Iranian other' in a host country. The article focuses on the changes which have occurred in various periods of their Lives. How did these activists experience their lives in Iran during such drastic events as revolution, imprisonment and living 'underground'? How do they view their present lives as Iranians in exile? The impact of the past on their present lives and their views of the future, is also considered.
