This article discusses Jan Jozef Lipski's essay Dwie ojczyzny, dwa patriotyzmy [Two Homelands, Two Patriotisms] as a matrix of patriotism. The main question is: will the homeland designed by Lipski accommodate illegitimate identities (woman, gay, peasant) that can be described as "subordinated familiars" (or "internal strangers")? Czaplinski concludes by asking whether we still need the "homeland" today.
