摘要
The goal of this study was to assess the links between shyness, romantic relationship quality, and well-being. In two studies (Study 1, N = 1159; Study 2, N = 400), young adults completed self-reports of shyness, the quality of their current romantic relationships, romantic attachment beliefs, and well-being. Results indicated that shyness was lower in participants who were currently in a romantic relationship. As well, among individuals currently with romantic partners, shyness was negatively associated with relationship quality and well-being, and positively associated with insecure romantic attachment beliefs (i.e., attachment anxiety, attachment avoidance). However, more positive attachment beliefs (i.e., low avoidant attachment) attenuated the negative association between shyness and wellbeing (i.e., a buffering effect). Results are discussed in terms of the possible implications of romantic relationships for shy young adults.
