Androgen and estrogen receptors in the rat exorbital gland

摘要：
The exorbital lacrimal gland (ELG) of the rat shows histomorphological as well as histochemical as well as biochemical sex differences. In order to better know the effects of sex hormones on this gland, we performed preliminary molecular studies on the presence of androgen and estrogen receptors in rat ELG during development. Androgen receptor transcript is expressed at low levels from two weeks to six months of age in ELG of both sexes. On the contrary, estrogen receptor transcript is always expressed only in female ELG; while it disappears in male ELG after the third month of life.
