THE REINVENTION OF EUROPE FROM THE COLONIALITY OF AMERICA

This article aims to discuss the work Coloniality of Power, Eurocentrism and Latin America by the social scientist Anibal Quijano, who conducts an analysis of coloniality as a constituent element on the capitalist sphere giving the European countries a new world standard of domination. Revealing a legacy of deep-seated injustices of colonialism and imperialism: the metropolitan exclusivism as a mark of the European economy for all the American colonies, accentuating the imposition of the model of European capitalism in the world; the process of Modernity / Coloniality that underpin the Eurocentric relations of power starts from the conquest of America, being imposed on the entire world population. Quijano presents important positions, among them the imposition of the idea of race as an instrument of domination and nation-state building based on the Eurocentric model.
