摘要
An automated vehicle (AV) is a vehicle that can self-navigate safely by sensing its environment with little or no human control. The development of hardware devices has provided the technical foundation for the realization of AVs. If the entire road system can be highly automated, there could be great benefits in terms of convenience and security. This project report details efforts towards building an automated driving vehicle prototype based on a Kia Soul. This includes the methods to achieve automatic control of car actions, including steering, throttle, and braking. This report first investigates the existing steering system, throttle system and braking system of the Kia Soul car. The report then outlines the method of autopilot built on existing hardware infrastructure. Several experiments were conducted at the IAG research centre to assess the feasibility of using electric signals to drive the car's actions and to understand the multiple sensors installed in the car. Lastly, it discusses how these preliminary works could be extended for further implementations.
