Detection of noisy and pattern responses in complex systems

We propose a novel method based on fractal dimension log-log plots for pattern detection in complex information-processing systems. Using a black box approach, we apply the method to anesthetized cat visual neuron responses, and compare it with results from biophysically detailed numerical simulations of cortical layer IV This leads as to a novel characterization and interpretation of neuronal firing and points out novel principles for the design of electronic near-to-biology computational systems.
