摘要
A technical workforce is an essential need in Lao PDR as proposed by the government. However, the lack of vocational students to support the labor market is essential. This research aims to identify factors affecting students' decisions towards studying in vocational education in Lao PDR. The samples were 300 students studying in grade 9 and 12 in the academic year 2017. The students were from northern part, central region, and southern part of Lao PDR. The instrument was a questionnaire. Data analyses were frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The results showed that students were keen to study in the university more than the vocational school. In addition, the personal attribute factor had the highest effect to students' decisions. They believed that studying in vocational school could gain more theoretical knowledge and advanced practical training. This research can reflect the related stakeholders to uplift the vocational education standard and enhance the image and credibility of vocational schools in the future. The research findings can stimulate the Technical and Vocational Education Department to plan for an appropriate national policy, and create strategies to increase student enrolment in the vocational education.
