A modified liquid column damper design for vibration control of structures

摘要
A modified liquid column damper (MLCD) absorber is proposed as a passive vibration control device for structures with lateral vibration. a mass-spring system is added in the traditional tuned liquid column damper (TLCD). The mass is fixed in TLCD horizontally by a spring and its shape is designed as a sphere. The dynamical equations of the structure with MLCD are derived from the Lagrange's equations. A comparative study is performed to investigating the advantages of MLCD comparing with traditional TLCD. The results reveal that MLCD is more efficient in resonance suppression in comparison with the traditional TLCD. The design parameters of MLCD are analyzed for obtaining the optimal design in resonance suppression. The results reveal an improvement of the vibration suppression capability of the proposed MLCD that exceeds around 70% reduction of the vibration amplitude.
