Elastic properties of alkali silicate glasses with iron oxide: Relation to glass structure

摘要
Elastic moduli of lithium- and sodium-silicate glasses with 2, 5 and 10 mol% Fe2O3 were determined from acoustic measurements. Moduli of glasses with Li are higher than those for glasses with Na and increase with Fe3+ and with the Li content. The unpredictably high moduli of glasses with Li are interpreted in relation to a collapse of the glass structure due to bending of the Si-O-Si angle. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
