INTRODUCTION TO HYDRAULIC ENGINEERING IN THE NORTH COAST OF PERU DURING THE PRE-HISPANIC PERIOD

The present investigation analyzes the main archaeological remains related to the water conduction in the north coast of Peru, to determine the level of development of the hydraulic technology of the ancient Peruvians. The main archaeological evidences include channels and aqueducts, which come from the Mochica and Chimu cultures. Concluding that these societies used the same notions of hydraulic engineering applied today, following a specific geometric design for their channels, controlling the different variables for the acceleration and deceleration of water (Froude number), also avoiding its overflow or sedimentation.
