Quality assurance in birth care - Perinatal data collection - Current state and future prospects

Due to the rising interest in quality assurance programs in medicine. German perinatal data collection has been the focus of many discussions, and has gone through a thorough change during the last few years. Besides problems of responsibility for data collection and processing, the integration of quality assurance programs for case-related financing, especially the development of a new data set,was a major problem. This article describes the historical evolution, problems of the new data set and its electronic transmission, as well as the new reporting procedure.
