The Relationship between the Industrial Structure and Regional Income Inequality in China: An Empirical Analysis Based on Provincial Panel Data

We built an economic model with the industrial structure rationalization and industrial structure upgrade as core explanatory variables to study the relationship between the regional industrial structure and the relative income, based on a provincial panel data including 30 provinces in China mainland from 2000 to 2011. We come to the conclusion that the industrial structure does have a certain effect on the regional income distribution in China. The more reasonable and advanced the industrial structure is, the more balanced the income distribution is. Therefore, it's recommended that the government should make reasonable adjustments to industrial structures in different regions, and develop some appropriate measures to promote industrial structure upgrade. Besides, taking some income compensation measures is necessary.
