Fabrication and characterization of multi-walled carbon nanotubes for application in OLED packaging

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been synthesized and surface functionalized by acid or UV/ozone treatments to investigate their potential to serve as a desiccant for organic light-emitting diode (OLED) packaging. Results showed that the functionalized CNTs using UV/ozone surface treatments performed improved water adsorption capability by around 10% attributed to the formation of -OH group on the surface of CNTs. Ca-tests revealed that the Ca sensor packaged with CNTs desiccant in the cell exhibits a water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) of 5 x 10(-5) g/m(2)/day, suggesting the functionalized CNTs can be regarded as a highly potential candidate for application in OLED packaging.
