Soviet-Somali Cooperation, 1960s - 1970s

The author analyses the development of economic cooperation between the Soviet Union and the Republic of Somalia (from 1969 - Somali Democratic Republic). Special attention is drawn to the evolution of economic ties between the two countries and realization of the Soviet projects in Somalia - construction of factories, farms, agricultural units, port facilities in Berbera and others. The author points out the initial intentions and aims of the both countries before launching the projects as well as their outcomes and reasons for failure of some of them. The article is based mostly on the documents of Russian state archives as well as published and unpublished memoires of the participants in the events.
