On the bearing currents in medium power variable speed AC drives

摘要：
This paper shows a new reason, which causes bearing damages in medium power AC-drives. Laboratory and field tests with a 250 kW induction motor shows, that this new phenomenon is dominant with IEC 355 frame size motors, where insulated bearings are not generally used. Field detection and the elimination of the bearing current problem is discussed in detail.
