Air-coupled Ultrasonic NDT of Solids Using a Focused Electrical Spark Source

摘要
This paper presents a non-contact acoustic spark source for NDT applications. The acoustic pressure wave generated by an electric spark is focused by an ellipsoidal reflector from the inner focus of the reflector to the far focus. The focused spark source has high pressure amplitude and broad bandwidth. In this study, the authors present experimental study of using the developed spark source for generation of stress waves in solids. Both the Rayleigh surface wave and zero-group-velocity Lamb modes were measured in a 250mm concrete slab and in a 100mm steel plate.
