摘要
Our work presents a comparative study between the performance of a standard two-level and three-level converter for a wind energy conversion system. Renewable WECS is a direct converter of wind energy into electrical energy, it is commonly connected to the power grid through conventional two-level converters. This connection between the grid and the wind system must satisfy a standard IEEE conditions which include limitations of THD factor and current harmonics. The use of a three-level converter result a THD factor lower than the two-level one, also it works at higher switching frequencies that lower the losses and the size of the output filter. So in this paper, the wind energy conversion system based on both two-level and three-level converters are modeled and simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK. Simulation results will verify the importance of using a three-level converter instead of the standard one.
