摘要
The warlike nature of medieval jousting mutated gradually into a celebration solely devoted to the display of the skills of riders and jousting groups. These events, intrinsically linked to royal festivities, start to be known in 18th-century Spain as "las Parejas", or "The pairs", whose luxury and magnificence, and the politics and power the involved, reinforced their festive and courtly caracter. The National Library of Spain holds a number of manuscripts related to the tournaments of jousting pairs held for the wedding of the Prince of Asturias, Carlos de Borbon (future Carlos IV), and Maria Luisa de Parma on December 12th, 1765, written by Salvador Rodriguez Jordan and Juan Antonio Morales Coronel.
