Commitment in organizations

Various approaches concerning commitment in organizations are reviewed. Amongst them are structural, continuance, behavioral and organizational commitment. Organizational commitment with its components ''identification'' ''effort'' and ''willingness to stay with the organization'' is the most influential concept in work and organizational psychological research. Especially, quality of alternatives and size of previous investments contribute to the development of commitment. In addition, various other factors are reviewed. Finally, both involvement and job satisfaction are discerned from organizational commitment and future research issues are discussed.
