Removal of nitrogen and phosphorous compounds by zeolites and algae

摘要
The goal of the presented research was to investigate the effects of natural clinoptilolite and algae on removal of nitrogen and phosphorous compounds from synthetic wastewater. The treatments included: synthetic wastewater treated with clinoptilolite and synthetic wastewater treated with clinoptilolite and algae. The degree of removal of N-NH4, N-NO3, Nt, P-PO4 and P-t was determined for both treatments. The results showed that nitrogen and phosphorus compounds were removed in high levels (above 90%). Only the total nitrogen was removed in 74% for both treatments. Algae and clinoptilolite are very good sorbents for removal of phosphorus and nitrogen compounds. Clinoptilolite used in the experiment increased the sorption efficiency.
