Numerical simulation of 2D dam break on mobile bed

摘要
A relevant example of unsteady processes with strong interaction between hydrodynamics and solid transport, the propagation of dam-break waves over a mobile bed has been the subject of several recent research works. It has thus gained the role of a benchmark for solid transport models. From a physical point of view, the features of the process lead to the rejection of the hypothesis of immediate adaptation of solid transport to hydrodynamics. From the numerical standpoint, the tracking of water and bed wave fronts requires adequate numerical schemes. In the last few years, extensive work has dealt with the idealized scheme of one dimensional dam break over loose bed. More recently, existing models have been applied to study also the asymmetric wave propagation over the floodplain. In previous works the authors have adopted an original two phase nonequilibrium model to simulate one dimensional dam break over mobile bed. Here the model is extended to a two dimensional depth-averaged framework and then applied to simulate a dam break wave propagation over an alluvial floodplain.
