摘要
This paper deals with digitalization in medium voltage switchgear using latest available technologies, such as low power instrument transformers and modern digital protection and control relays with IEC 61850 digital communication. In introduction part it specifies main components forming the digital switchgear solution in comparison with conventional switchgear. The second part introduces low power instrument transformers (sensors) and their benefits. The third part describes IEC 61850 digital communication and its specific parts about Generic Object Oriented Substation Event (GOOSE) and Process Bus and their applicability in medium voltage networks. The last part of the paper highlights benefits of digital switchgear from end user perspective.
