Lateral geminate articulation in medieval Spanish: the testimony of the versified texts

The main goal of the current paper is the description of the lateral geminate segments in the History of the Spanish language: derived from the Latin -LL-, as well as those produced as a secondary process in external context of sandhi ([-1#1-]). To achieve this aim we have analysed the rhymes of the medieval Spanish poetry from its origins until the court of the Catholic Kings, considering that the sounds of the rhymes can shed some light in the reconstruction of the language pronunciation, which underlies in its spelling.
