摘要：

Contemporaneity is characterized by deepening of the structural crisis of capital and its strategies of recomposition of rates of profitability. In this process, higher education has been presented as a great "profitable niche" for the market. With the contribution of the Critical Social Theory, the present article aims to analyze the trends and contradictions of higher education considering that the expansion of higher education courses in private and non-university institutions has gained prominence in the PT governments, in the context of the transformations of capital and their refutations in brazilian higher education.
