Managing Digital Records within South Africa's Legislative and Regulatory Framework

South Africa's legal and regulatory environment is complex and has a long history. Public institutions in South Africa have to comply with a number of legal and regulatory provisions that relate to the management of records. Technology developments have seen the emergence of digital records that have brought such challenges as: how to define records, how to differentiate an original from a copy and how to manage the archival custody of digital records. In addition records professionals are confronted with challenges brought about by the ubiquitous nature of Cloud computing. This article explores challenges in managing digital records within the context of South Africa's legislative and regulatory framework.
