Testing the normal and Cauchy hypotheses for a sample distribution

摘要：

An algorithm of testing two alternative hypotheses (whether the distribution of a sample is the normal or Cauchy distribution, respectively) is synthesized by the maximum-likelihood (ML) method when distribution parameters are unknown. Formulas for error probabilities are derived and are verified by computer simulation.
