Application of the hybrid laser ultrasonic method in rail inspection

摘要
Rails are systematically inspected for surface and internal defects using the hybrid laser-EMAT technique in the present work. Quantitative time-of-flight analysis of laser-generated, with EMAT-detected, Rayleigh-shear mode-converted waves and diffracted shear waves has demonstrated an effective method for the monitoring of surface and internal artificial defects, respectively. The technique of noise suppression based on the wavelet soft-threshold method (WSTM) was introduced to improve the testing accuracy and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Experimental evidence has validated the predicted results for the cases of surface cracks, surface vertical holes, bolt hole cracks and web holes.
