摘要：
This paper shows, using a critical approach, a broad view of different cultural and scientific initiatives taking place on the Internet: history, current projects, controversies, and possible future developments. The limited extension available doesn't allow the study of specific cases, yet it is possible to refer to the ideas of the main discussions. This work refers mainly to the digitization of books and scientific papers, yet many topics are true for other cultural sectors.
