This review surveys current knowledge of fatty acids (FAs) analysis, with an emphasis on the analysis of fatty acids in microorganisms in relation to microbial taxonomy, chemotaxonomy, and clinical practice. Aspects of fatty acid analysis in foods, drugs, and other products are also discussed, and a general perspective on the history of chromatography is presented. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V.
