Ternary liquid-liquid equilibria for mixtures of quinoline plus an alkanol plus water at 298.2 K and 1 atm

The binodal curves and liquid-liquid equilibrium data are presented for mixtures of (quinoline + an alkanol + water) at 298.2 K. The alkanols used were methanol, ethanol, l-propanol, a-propanol, l-butanol, a-butanol, 2-methylpropan-1-ol, and 2-methylpropan-2-ol. The solubility of the alkanols is higher in the quinoline layer than in the water layer. The results have been fitted to Hlavaty's equation, the beta density function, and the logarithmic gamma function. The binodal curves obtained from these equations have been compared with the experimental binodal curves, The NRTL equation was also used to correlate the experimental tie lines. There are no data in the literature for the mixtures discussed in this paper. The effectiveness of the extraction of an alkanol by quinoline is reported as a ratio of the solubilities in the two phases.
