The practitioner's role and the owner's obligations

The practitioner must ensure that the animal is not already identified by either tattoo or microchip. if the animal is tattooed, the practitioner must verify the existence and conformity v of the information on the tattoo-identification card and that the person presenting the animal is that noted on the card. In the case of importation or intracommunity exchange of a domestic carnivore into France, the owner must ensure that the animal is identified either by tattoo or microchip within seven days. In the case of identification of a cat or dog by microchip before IS January 2001, the owner must have the animal's identification validated by a veterinarian. Insert exeresis is restricted to certain cases such as if the SIEV requests that the animal has a new identification or if the microchip is no longer legible.
