UNPLANNED SETTLEMENTS THE CONCEPT AND ITS MEANING

Unplanned settlements, informal settlements, spontaneous settlements, squatter settlements, shanty towns, self-made cities are some of the terms used to designate unplanned settlements worldwide. Although the concept of an unplanned settlement has been largely defined by international organizations it still remains relatively undefined within the Croatian context despite the fact that such settlements exist in the Republic of Croatia.
