A 2-year field experiment was conducted during 1988 and 1989 with 3 nitrogen levels (90, 120 and 150 kg/ha), 2 seed rates (100 and 150 kg/ha), 3 mulches (soil mulch, rice straw @ 10 tonnes/ha and saw-dust @ 5 tonnes/ha) and 2 varieties ('Sonalika' and 'Lok 1') of wheat (Triticum aestivum L. emend. Fiori & Paol.) under late-sown conditions. Under the conditions of Madhya Pradesh growing of variety 'Lok 1' with 120 kg N/ha and seed rate of 150 kg/ha with rice straw mulch (10 tonnes/ha) gave the maximum grain yield.
