Continent urinary diversion: A new technique

Our study report on a series of 19 cases of urinary continent diversion following an original technique and performed in the department of urology from 1991 to 1997. It concerns 10 females and 9 males, presenting different affections of lower urinary tract: Bladder tumors 11 cases, urethral stricture 1 case, neurogenic bladder 1 case, bladder exstrophy 1 case, epispadias 2 cases and vesicovaginal fistula 3 cases. We describe here the technique and results. The use of detubularized Ileal graft allows a monobloc configuration of valve and reservior.An efficient antireflux system protects kidneys, and continence is ensured a hydraulic valve, permitting an easy catheterization thanks to its fiexibility and permeability. Urodynamics and physical characteristics of this new diversion allow a solid continent setting and then a real comfort to our patients. This study plead for this new concept of continence by detubularized ileal graft.
