The announcement of the development of a smokeless diesel-electric propulsion plant between Carnival Cruise and Wartsila NSD (MER March) has prompted competitor MAN B&W Diesel's Augsburg's four-stroke factory to respond and contradict the benefits cited by Wartsila of 'Direct Water Injection.' It says that DWI increases, not decreases, smoke generation.
