Spaces of a community. The Campo Santo Teutonico company in Rome (16th-17th century)

This paper, focusing on the case study of the confraternity of the Lombards, rethinks the belonging to a national community (natio) as a form of adherence to the urban body. The confraternity of the Lombards (Sant'Ambrogio e Carlo al Corso dei Milanesi) - one of the most numerous groups of foreigners brought together people of different origins (from twenty five dioceses). Analysing the social ties within the group and in the larger frame of the urban space, this paper explores the internal differentiations of the community in order to reveal the importance of the multiple scales of geographical belonging.
