RECONSIDERING THE LIMITS OF GROWTH WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Sustainable development is the vision that directs the bulk of long term strategies at various levels. By this concept it was envisaged to overcome the worrying trends enlightened by the "Limits of Growth" report, assuming that population and economic growth could be shaped in such a way that the ecological support is not affected. Our paper reconsiders the limits of growth in a human dimension, as a measure of wellbeing and attempts to demonstrate that achieving sustainable development means a separation of wellbeing from material wealth. The efforts invested in sustainable consumption and production fostering is considered as an evidence that such separation is necessary and could be made within certain limits.
