On the Outage Performance of an IEEE 802.11 Broadcast Scheme in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks

摘要
This paper proposes a new mathematical framework is proposed for analyzing the outage performance of a periodic broadcast service in vehicular networks. Using this framework we are able to calculate higher-order statistics of various random variables associated with the network, including message delay and the number of received packets from neighborhood nodes. Characterizing such quantities beyond their first-order statistics is important in resilient and safety-critical design of networked control systems. We also provide numerical results to compare the outage performance of IEEE 802.11 medium access control with a simple ALOHA like protocol.
